It's been more than 30 years since he suited up for the Swedes football team, but Bethany College alumnus Mike Olson will make a difference on the field next year.
Olson has awarded an annual scholarship for a student-athlete, specifically a running back on the football team, at the college.
The recipient for the 2008-2009 season is Sean Dahley, Phoenix, Ariz.
Dahley was ranked third in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference in rushing last year. In the final game of the season, he scored two touchdowns and rushed for 230 yards.
Olson, a 1972 Bethany graduate, was a Swede running back from 1968 to 1972. He still holds both the single game rushing record and the single season rushing record at Bethany – both of which Dahley will challenge again next season.
"We are excited about the fact that Mr. Olson feels so strongly about giving back to Bethany and our football program. Gifts such as this are an important part of funding at private colleges, and Sean is a very deserving recipient of Mike's generosity," said Jamie Cruce, Bethany's head football coach.
Olson and his wife, Jill, a 1973 Bethany graduate, live in Salina. He owns and operates Mike Olson Accounting and Tax.
