CHAVARRIA NAMED KCAC STAFF ATHLETIC TRAINER OF THE YEAR

LINDSBORG, KAN. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced that Jose Chavarria was named KCAC Staff Athletic Trainer (AT) of the Year.

"First off, I would like to thank the team that I have around me as it takes a village to prosper," said Jose. "Also, a huge thank you to anyone who has helped me along the way."

Jose is the first Bethany College athletic staff member to earn this honor in the three-year history of the Staff Athletic Trainer of the Year award.

"Jose has been a great asset to have at Bethany College with his knowledge and care for the athletes," said Head Athletic Trainer Abe Noll.

For the Staff AT of the Year award, the KCAC recognizes one individual each year for exceptional performance as a member of an athletic training staff. Award recipients are actively involved in their community or campus, within the conference, athletic training associations, and promotion of the profession.

Over the past 4 years, Jose has been the head AT for football, has been integral in assisting a new Head AT this previous year who was new to college athletics, and has been dependable stepping up to any occasion with out hesitation. He always holds himself to a high standard and has been professional when it comes to his athletes and practices. Always organized and hard-working, Jose always ensures none of the athletes fall through any gaps.

"We are excited for Jose and very proud of him for this honor!" said Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno. "It is well deserved and a testament not just to the Athletic Trainer Jose is, but also the person he is. His positive attitude, work ethic, calm demeanor, and compassion is an immeasurable benefit for our student-athletes and staff; we are so thankful to have Jose on our team!"

Associate Professor of Exercise Science and Health & Physical Education Coordinator Laura Jackson-Stenlund: "In the time Jose has been at Bethany College, he has established himself as a knowledgeable and effective athletic trainer. What I most appreciate about him though has nothing to do with prevention and treatment, it's his presence. His empathy and calm demeanor make sure both athletes and staff feel supported and encouraged. His value to our athletic training team is immeasurable.

Jose began working at Bethany College as an Athletic Trainer in July 2020. Before joining us at Bethany College, Jose was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Southwestern College from 2019 to 2020.
