DESPITE COMING BACK SWEDES LOSE 12-10
San Antonio, Tex. - In game 3 of the series, the Swedes would score in five of the seven innings in the game but unfortunately fall short 12-10 to Our Lady of the Lake University.
Despite a 5-run deficit after the first inning, the Swedes almost came all the way back, putting up seven runs in the attempt to comeback. Andrew Massey, Willard Frizzell, Noel Perez, Joseph Rivera and Luis Ramos picked up RBIs to lead the rally.
In the first inning, Our Lady of the Lake University Saints Varsity got their offense started when Noah Rodriguez homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring four runs off his grand slam. The Saints would add another run in the bottom half of the first to lead 5-0 after the first.
In the second inning the Swedes would get one run back on a Willard Frizzell nuke to dead center. That was Frizzell's first homerun of the season. The bats would stay hot from the third inning to the sixth inning as the offense was able to generate runs in every inning.
The Swedes put up two runs in the third inning from an RBI single by Noel Perez and a sacrifice fly by Joseph Rivera to bring the score to 5-3 heading to the bottom of the inning. Our Lady of the Lake would answer back with scoring 3 of their own in the half to extend the lead to 8-3.
The top half of the fourth inning the Swedes were able to load the bases for Andrew Massey to clear them all for 4 RBIs. Massey hit a hard line drive to center field and the centerfielder for the Saints misjudged the ball and it rolled all the way to the fence. Massey was able to sprint around the bases to score all four runs for the Swedes in the inning. The two relievers for the Swedes, Alfredo Cruz and Jacob Mallozzi, would keep the game 8-7 heading into the top of the fifth inning.
In the fifth inning the Swedes would tie the game up at 8-8 thanks to a double by David Espinal and an RBI single by Andrew Massey. The game would not remain tied for long in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Saints were able to score 4 runs to take the lead 12-8.
The top half of the sixth inning started with Ashton Gatica getting hit with a pitch to leadoff the inning, followed by a single by Willard Frizzell that moved Gatica to third base and Frizzell took second base on the throw. Luis Ramos steps up the plate and drives a double down the left field line to score two and bring the game to the final score of 12-10.
Willian Figueroa-Soto took the loss for the Swedes. The lefty lasted one inning, allowing two hits and five runs while striking out one.
Swedes tallied 15 hits on the day. Connor Crayton, David Espinal, Noel Perez, and Willard Frizzell all managed multiple hits for the Swedes. David Espinal and Connor Crayton had three hits to lead the Swedes.
