SWEDES FALL 0-3 IN NON-CON SERIES AGAINST WILDCATS
Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Swedes Baseball team lost its non-conference series against the Baker University Wildcats 0-3. The series began on Friday, April 11, in Baldwin City, Kan. with Game 1 and concluded with Games 2 and 3 in Lindsborg, Kan. This marked the home game for the varsity team this season.
GAME 1: SWEDES 1, WILDCATS 9
In the first game, a nine-inning contest played in Baldwin City, Kan., the Swedes struck first with a Jesuel Cruz grounder that scored Ryan Smith. The Wildcats would then get to work scoring the final nine runs of the contest to take this one. The Swedes tallied more hits than the Wildcats, but also walked 14 batters.
GAME 2: SWEDES 4, WILDCATS 16
Saturday's seven-inning opener was largely decided in the top of the first inning, as the visiting Wildcats posted seven runs. The Swedes fought back with RBIs from Josue Figuera and Will Parsons in the second inning, followed by an RBI double from Devin Soto-Harris in the fifth. Despite their efforts, Bethany couldn't keep pace with Baker's 16 runs on 12 hits.
GAME 3: SWEDES 9, WILDCATS 16
In the final game of the series, the Swedes came out strong, scoring a total of six runs in the first inning. Coach Ortiz's squad appeared poised for a win, holding a 9-5 lead by the end of the fifth inning, highlighted by two RBIs from Josue Figuera and two runs scored by Fernando Bones. However, the tide turned dramatically in the final two innings, as Baker scored 11 unanswered runs, securing a 16-9 comeback victory.

The Bethany College Baseball team will travel to York, Neb. to take on the York University Panthers to wrap up the second, and final, mid-week conference series of the season. Game three is set for Tuesday, April 15, at 2:00 PM.
