SWEDES FALL IN HEARTBREAKER TO #10 SIUE

Lindsborg, Kan. - The Swedes varsity Call of Duty team was scheduled to match up with the #10 ranked Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville Cougars and Purdue Northwest on Tuesday evening. The Swedes and the Cougars would battle it out to the end, where the Swedes would fall in 11 rounds in Game 5 by a score of 5-6, and in the series 2-3. Purdue Northwest would forfeit the series against the Swedes.

 

Against the Cougars, the Swedes would come out strong on Hotel Hardpoint, claiming the lead after the first two Hardpoint hills. By the third Hardpoint hill, the Swedes would fall behind and spend the remainder of the map trying to climb back before losing 216-250. On Map 2, the Swedes would drop two rounds, before claiming two of their own. After tying the game at 2-2, the Swedes would drop four consecutive rounds to lose the Game 2 Mercado Search and Destroy by a score of 0-2. 

 

Fighting for their lives in the series, the Swedes would bounce back big in Game 3 Control on El Asilo (3-1 victory) and Game 4 Hardpoint on Hydroelectric (250-186 victory) to even the series at 2-2. The Game 5 Search and Destroy on Hotel would round out the series between the Swedes and the Cougars. Down 3-5, the Swedes would claim back-to-back rounds to force a winner-take-all Round 11. After claiming two of the first three kills of the round, the Swedes man advantage quickly dissapated as the remaining two Cougars would combine for all three kills in a matter of seconds, costing the Swedes the map (5-6) and series (2-3). 

 

In the long series, Freshman SMG-player Mason "Slixx" Robinson would set the school record for kills in a series with 138, while freshman Main AR James "Sentum" Winfrey would set the school record for assists in a map (20, Game 1 Hardpoint on Hotel) and in a series (38).

 

 

The next matchups for the Swedes come next week, when the Swedes take on the #13 ranked Ottawa Braves and the #1 ranked and defending national champion Northwood Timberwolves. The Swedes-Braves matchup is set for 9pm on Monday, March 6, while a reschedule for the Northwood matchup is still in discussion due to the campus-wide community service day for Bethany on Tuesday, March 7.
