SLIXX, TEAM SET NEW SCHOOL MARKS

Linsborg, Kan. - In a series against nationally #10 ranked Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville on Tuesday night, Freshman Mason "Slixx" Robinson set a new Swedes Esports records. Slixx posted 138 kills in the series against the Cougars, breaking his own previous record of 128, which was set on January 28, 2023 against the University of Illinois. The varsity team also set a new team record - 136 assists in a series - which was previously set on January 28, also against Illinois.

 

When asked about the achievement, Coach Blake Mitchell had the following comment: "I'm exceptionally proud of the work that both Mason and his teammates have been putting into their game, both at the collegiate and amateur level this season. We knew we had a good player and person coming to campus when Slixx signed on with us last spring, but had no idea how heavy of an impact he would make as a freshman. He showed up to play against a team that finished fourth place nationally last season, and had the series of a lifetime. His leadership, talent, and overall knowledge of his craft are the intangibles that any coach of any sport would love to see in every player." 

 

As for the new team record of 138 assists, Mitchell says that the team chemistry is "finally beginning to fall into place". Several team records have already been surpassed this semester, including Most Team Assists in a Search and Destroy Map (11, twice), Most Individual Kills in a Search and Destroy Map (Slixx, 15, tied school record), to go along with the seven school records that were set by this group in Fall 2022.

 

"The teamwork was truly on display this evening, particularly in Map 3 and Map 4, and I'm excited to see how the guys can build off of that moving forward," commented Mitchell. Although the Swedes would ultimately fall 2-3 in the series with the Cougars in Game 5, Round 11 fashion, standout performances by Slixx and his teammates can be expected against all levels of talent for the remainder of the regular season, as well as the College Call of Duty 2023 playoffs.
