SWEDES C.O.D. HEADS TO OTTAWA FOR KCAC CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT

LINDSBORG, KAN. - Since its inception in 2020, the Bethany College esports team has competed in 399 matches. All 399 of those matches have taken place online from Bethany College's campus. That is set to change on November 9, 2023, however, as the Swedes Call of Duty team heads to Ottawa Kansas to take on the Braves in the KCAC Call of Duty postseason championship match. 

 

The Swedes look to break the trend of back-to-back heartbreaking seasons, as they took home third place in 2021 and second place in 2022. The 2022 season came to an end at the hands of the Ottawa Braves, where the Swedes fell 2-3 in the championship. For the first time in program history, the Swedes will enter the championship game as the undefeated number one seed. Typically, Call of Duty is played in a best-of-five series, with the order of game modes being Hardpoint-Search and Destroy-Control-Hardpoint-Search and Destroy. However, this series will be played out in a best-of-seven fashion, adding an additional Control map and Search and Destroy map to crown the 2023 conference champion. 

 

So far, the Swedes Call of Duty team has claimed a third and second place finish within the KCAC, while the League of Legends team has two KCAC third-place finishes. Valorant took home third place in KCAC this fall, while Rocket League has claimed second place once within the KCAC. Smash Bros Ultimate singles has claimed one NECC conference championship and a top-six finish at nationals. The Swedes look to claim the program's first KCAC championship plaque from the Peters Auditorium Esports Arena in Ottawa.

 

Starters for the Swedes in the championship match will be returning sophomore and CCL All-Midwest First Team star Mason "Slixx" Robinson, senior Connor "Deimos" Peterson, senior Lauren "Valkyrie" Crotinger, and junior Hayden "Rooster" Borton.
