Vogt and Waggoner sign with the Salina Bombers
Two Bethany College football players, Tyler Vogt and Zach Waggoner, have signed with the Salina Bombers indoor football team for the upcoming 2013 season.
The Salina Bombers, formed in 2012 under the partnership of Chris Vercher, Jake Leighty and Jake Sharp, is owned by Indoor Game Production and is the city's first indoor arena football team. The Bombers will compete in the Champions of Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) that features ten teams, including the Wichita Wild. While the CPIFL is a newborn, most of the member teams are not. Some of the franchises, including teams from Wichita, Topeka, Sioux City and Sedalia, have been in existence for over 12 years.
Vogt is a 6-foot-1 offensive lineman from Santa Maria, Calif. He signed with the Bombers on Jan. 12 to play their center. Vogt played for Bethany during the 2010-2011 seasons. He was a team captain and earned honorable mention all-conference honors both years. Vogt says, "My biggest accomplishment will be when I graduate in May with a degree in biology." Vogt is the son of Sandra Salisbury and Steve Vogt, and he plans to become a physical therapist.
Waggoner is a 6-foot-4 quarterback from Corinth, Texas. He signed with the Bombers on Dec. 23. Waggoner has played on the Bethany football team since 2009. Waggoner says, "I am glad I stuck it out and never quit on the sport. I hope to make a difference on this new team and am looking forward to the competition." He plans to play as long as possible and coach and teach afterwards. He will graduate from Bethany in May with a degree in history and political science. Waggoner is the son of Martin and Shari Waggoner.
Interim Head Football Coach Nick Taylor says, "We are very proud of both these young men, watching them develop at Bethany College and now getting the opportunity to continue their careers, which is a great chance for both of them. I am excited to watch them play this spring."
Both Vogt and Waggoner will report for training camp with the Salina Bombers on Jan. 21.
The Salina Bombers season kicks off on March 16 as they host the Wichita Wild. All home games are played at the Salina Bicentennial Center.
