Nine football players earn All-Conference honors

The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference has released the 2013 KCAC Football All-Conference Teams and Individual Award Winners.

Nine Bethany College football players earned All-Conference honors.

Junior fullback Tevis Linnebur, Cherryvale, Kan., was named 1st Team Offense.

T. Linnebur rushed for 721 yards on 176 attempts and five touchdowns. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry and 65.5 yards per game. T. Linnebur added 176 receiving yards on 10 catches and one touchdown, averaging 17.6 yards per catch.

T. Linnebur was also a 2012 1st Team selection and a 2013 All-Preseason Team selection.

"It is an honor to have so many of our players awarded All-KCAC this season," said Head Coach Manny Matsakis. "Offensively, I am excited that Tevis Linnebur was a 1st Team selection in the All-Conference backfield, which is a testament to his hard work and dedication."

Senior linebacker Milton Collins, Baytown, Texas, was named 2nd Team Defense.

Collins recorded 32 solo tackles and 20 assisted tackles for a total of 52. He had 18 tackles for loss, resulting in 53.3 yards lost, and 3.5 sacks for 53.3 yards lost.

"Defensively, Milton Collins was awarded 2nd Team as one of the most outstanding linebackers in our conference," Matsakis said.

Six Swedes were named Honorable Mention selections: junior defensive back Trevor Smith, Phillipsburg, Kan.; junior defensive lineman Steven Williams, Houston, Texas; senior defensive lineman Rocky Castro, Santa Fe, Texas; senior linebacker Cody Linnebur, Cherryvale, Kan.; freshman running back Jafar Thomas, East Orange, New Jersey; freshman wide receiver Rodney Molette, Manor, Texas; sophomore punter Brett Crome, Bremen, Kan.

"Other offensive players that were awarded All-KCAC honors were two freshman in Jafar Thomas and Rodney Molette which bodes extremely well for the future of Swede Football in 2014," said Matsakis. "Other defensive players awarded All-KCAC honors were Trevor Smith, Steven Williams, Rocky Castro and Cody Linnebur. These young men played with great passion and were leaders on our team this past season. Our finall All-Conference selection was Brett Crome at punter. Brett, in the last half of the season, was arguably the most valuable player on our football team as he averaged nearly 50 yards per punt in half of our conference games. We are excited to have Brett back next year to help lead our team in our effort to turnaround the Bethany Swede Football Program."

Smith recorded 21 solo tackles and five assisted tackles for a total of 26. He had three tackles for loss, resulting in nine lost yards. Smith also had two interceptions on the season, five passes defended, and one forced fumble.

Williams had 72 total tackles, 39 solo and 33 assisted. He had 11.5 tackles for loss, resulting in 43.7 yards loss and three sacks for 27 lost yards. Williams also had two passes defended.

Castro totaled six solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles for a total of 20. In addition, Castro contributed three tackles for loss resulting in a loss of 24.5 yards and two sacks for a loss of 23 yards.

C. Linnebur had 26 solo tackles and 33 assisted tackles for a total of 59. He had 6.5 tackles for loss for 22.2 yards lost and one sack for a loss of 13 yards. In addition, C. Linnebur recovered two fumbles and had one pass defended.

Thomas tallied 480 rushing yards on 88 attempts and five touchdowns. He averaged 5.5 yards per carry and 43.6 rushing yards per game. Thomas also had 21 catches for 274 receiving yards and one touchdown. He averaged 12.5 yards per catch and 23.9 receiving yards per game.

Molette had 28 catches for 425 yards and five touchdowns on the season. He averaged 15.2 yards per catch and 38.5 receiving yards per game.

Crome recorded 53 punts for a total of 1,951 yards. He averaged 36.8 yards per punt, and his longest punt of the season was 61 yards.

The Swedes ended their season with a 1-8 KCAC record, and an overall record of 2-9.
