Swedes Football Signs 39
LINDSBORG, Kan. – As winter sports have come to a close and spring sports are in full swing, across the nation college football teams are beginning to hit their stride with offseason logistics. Workout regimes are fully underway, anticipation is high with spring practice being right around the corner, and it is the time of the year to see how all the recruiting efforts pay off. Bethany College has signed 39 new football recruits.
Head Coach Manny Matsakis is very happy with the new class that has come to campus for spring classes, or will be coming to campus for classes in the fall. Matsakis currently has 12 of his signed recruits already enrolled and on campus.
"I am genuinely excited about the quality of these outstanding student-athletes that have signed to attend Bethany College in 2014," Matsakis said. "The opportunity to build upon the past success attained by former Swede football teams is what drives our coaching staff to continue to 'raise the bar' in the recruiting process in an effort to continue the championship tradition in Lindsborg."
From the 39 total recruits, 30 are incoming freshman, seven are junior college transfers, and two are transfers from a four-year institution. There are 23 offensive players, 15 defensive, and one kicker in this year's recruiting class. The Swedes have ten new offensive linemen and eight new defensive backs. Coach Matsakis brought in eight home grown Kansas kids, six from California, and six from Texas.
