Swedes Fall to Rival Kansas Wesleyan In Salina

SALINA, Kan. – The Swedes football team was in action again tonight against arch-rival Kansas Wesleyan. After a hard fought game, the Coyotes came out on top 49-27. With this loss, Bethany falls to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

Things started out shaky for the Swedes when KWU scored off of a Bethany fumble in the opening kickoff. The Swedes were able to answer on their next offensive drive thanks to a 30-yard field goal off of the leg of James Augusta, junior kicker.

Just before the end of the first quarter the Swedes were able to take the lead over KWU thanks to a 10-play 64-yard drive ending in a Swedes' touchdown. This would the first two touchdowns for Michael Wimberly, junior wide receiver. His second would come during a final push from the Swedes in the fourth quarter when Isaiah Salazar, sophomore quarterback, found him for the second time for four yards.

The Swedes scored quickly in the second quarter after the teams' defense made a huge stop on fourth and four. Nathaniel Ocran, junior running back, had a six-yard touchdown run. However, after this the Swedes would go cold until halfway through the third quarter when Kyle Gfeller, senior kicker, put a 28-yard field goal through the uprights. However, in the meantime the Coyotes would find the end zone three times.

Kansas Wesleyan would also score three times in the fourth quarter sealing their victory over the Swedes.
