Moge's Musings - November 4, 2016
Musings
It was a late night andSo, here it is Thursday morning and PKM is working to get his Musings finished.
I usually Muse on Wednesday evenings, but something called the World 'Serious' got in the way last night.
It wasn't a matter of who won for me, it was more of wanting to see who would replace my beloved Royals as the new world champions and a desire to see a good game 7.
Well, it was a heck of a game. As far as the Cubs winning in extra innings, I know the younger editions of the Mogenson clan were ecstatic. Since the advent of cable TV in Lindsborg—with WGN in the package, the boys have become Cub fans second to the Royals.
It used to be that both would head to Chicago to take in a game at Wrigley in September (when tickets were easy to come by with the Cubs eliminated from contention).
Well enough on baseball.
Last week the Swede defense got kicked in the teeth in the first 10 minutes of their game at Friends and fell behind 21-0. It seems we need to start the games later than the opening kickoff to have a chance.
But after that, they showed up to play and got within five points early in the fourth quarter.
But Jesse Rogers was the man of the day. He ripped Bethany for 332 yards on the ground. Heck that's a season for some players.
Bethany wasn't without stars of their own though. Nate Ocran tied his career rushing mark with a 197 yard day of his own.
After being slowed by injury early in the year, the 200 pound junior has moved up to 5th in the KCAC individual stats averaging 89 yards a game and with a good finish the next two games he could be flirting with a 1000 yard season.
This is a true testament to the way the offensive line is performing.
Dalton Goodwin and Mike Wimberly are right there in the 4th position for receptions. And Anthony (Action) Jackson is also in the top 10.
This week, Bethany closes the home portion of the schedule with conference co-leader Tabor.
Tabor is again a very sound team that doesn't typically beat itself. Defensively, they are smallish up front, but using a 5-1 scheme is something not usually a team has to prepare for.
Offensively, the Blue Jays will incorporate a dual quarterback system. Curry Parham (6-3, 250) has the big arm and can run the option while Keith Thomas is the more athletic of the two and favors the option.
Mike Gardner has apparently scrapped his Flexbone attack for a more conventional (fullback & I-Back) one as his teams are geared to the talent he has available.
Tidbit
Bethany's men will be at home Friday night with Johnson & Wales. This will be a night when parking will be at a premium around Hahn Gym.
Not so much for fans showing up to support the Swedes, but to see the Vikings host Nickerson in a first round game of the Class 4II football playoffs.
Should be interesting as the Vikings make their first playoff appearance in eight years and are coached by a former Swede Tim Lambert. Nickerson, a team possessed of monstrous size, is coached by another former Swede Mike Vernon.
Both the football game and the hoop game start at 7 pm.
