DIEGO VELASCO JOINS MEN'S SOCCER AS ASSISTANT COACH
Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Department of Athletics, Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno, and Head Men's Soccer Coach Papa Ndiaye announce that Diego Velasco will be joining the soccer program as an assistant coach.
"We are excited to welcome Diego Velasco to the Swedes family. Diego believes in a relationship-based approach and focuses on preparation and development. We believe he will be a perfect fit for our soccer program" said Head Coach Papa Ndiaye.
Coach Velasco comes to Bethany College from Manhattan Christian College (MCC) in Manhattan, Kansas where he was the assistant soccer coach for the men's team there. During this past season, his MCC team set the school record for goals scored in a season with 104 which led to the team finishing 3rd in the NCCAA National Championships. While Diego Velasco was coaching MCC, he was also coaching a youth soccer club for Puma FC which he has been a part of for the past 5 years.
Coach Velasco also has a decorated playing career. While serving in the United States Marine Corps, Velasco was recruited to play on the All-Marine Men's Soccer team before an ACL injury took him out. In college, Velasco helped MCC appear in the NCCAA National Championships in all 4 years of attendance to go along with 3 conference titles, two regional titles, and graduated as an Academic All-American.
Diego Velasco graduated from Manhattan Christian College with a Bachelor's in Ethics and Management.
