SWEDES LOSE 3-2 ON A LAST SECOND GOAL

Sterling Kan. - The Bethany College Men's Soccer team hit the road to take on Sterling College.

The Swedes dropped a tough game on Saturday afternoon, losing 3-2 on a last second shot by Sterling College. With the loss that brings the Swedes conference record to 3-4-1, and with the victory Sterling's conference record to 3-3-2.

In the first 6 minutes of the match Sterling was granted a corner kick and from that were able to find the back of the net by Marco Madrono. This gave Sterling the early 1-0 lead, but 11 minutes later the Swedes offense brought it all squared up. Angel Silva was able to find freshman Rhajneil Brown in the box to take the shot and score, giving him his first collegiate goal. The remainder of the half Sterling took what the Swedes were giving them by taking advantage of the open space to put off 12 shots in the half. Jake Goldstein had a busy afternoon, but would save 5 of the shots in the half and finish the match with 7 saves. In the 31st minute of the match, Sterling added another goal from Jacobo Sanfeliu to give them the 2-1 lead headed into halftime.

In the second half the trends of the game continued, Sterling kept attacking the Swedes adding another 11 shots this half. The Swedes offense started to wake up late in the game as they were being more aggressive taking 8 shots this half. Not much was to speak of it until the 86th minute when Sterling made a costly foul in the box to give the Swedes the penalty kick. Nathan Asiedu took the penalty kick for the Swedes and was able to get it past the keeper to bring the game even at 2-2. Emotions were running high for both squads as the time started to run out in the last two minutes of the match both teams were trying to push to get a goal. The Swedes took it upfield to try to get a last second goal and came up short. After the shot, Sterling was able to capitalize on the Swedes defenders being too high upfield and pushed the ball in the last minute of the game. In the 89:50 mark of the match, Sterling scored the game winning goal from Jhonatan Rendon-Garcia assisted by Jacobo Sanfeiu and Marco Madrono. It was a tough loss for the Swedes but they will keep moving forward as they look to prepare for next week's conference games.
