SWEDES LOSE 1-0 IN KCAC QUARTERFINALS
Bartlesville, Okla. - The Bethany College Men's Soccer team traveled to Oklahoma to take on the number one seed Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the KCAC tournament quarterfinals.
For the first time since 2017 the men's soccer team made it to the playoffs and were tasked with going up against the regular season champs, Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Swedes would leave it all out on the pitch but would come up short losing 1-0.
In the first half, the offense for the Swedes were looking to contribute early in the match. In the half they outshot the Eagles, taking 8 shots with 7 on goal. Unfortunately, nothing was able to find the back of the net as OKWU goalkeeper, Iija Catic, would save 7 of the shots.The Swedes defense kept doing what they have been doing all season long keeping Oklahoma Wesleyan scoreless for the first 35 minutes. Jake Goldstien would save 4 shots in the half and finish with 7 on the game. The defense for the Swedes were playing outstanding until they were called for a penalty just outside the box. In the 38th minute the Eagles were able to capitalize on the foul, moving quickly after the call they were able to put the ball in the box for Stefan Cvetanovic to take the shot and score. The Eagles would lead 1-0 going into the half and that would be all they needed.
The Swedes were not able to take that many more shots for the rest of the game as both teams played great defensively. In the second half it was all defense as there were no goals on either side. The Swedes had a chance when the ball rattled around the box after a throw-in but the Eagles keeper was able to jump on the ball for the save. Oklahoma Wesleyan would win the game by the score of 1-0 and advance to the semifinals in the KCAC tournament championship.
