SEASON RECAP

SEASON RECAP

The Bethany College Men's Soccer team made a postseason appearance for the first time since 2017. This year the program was able to break many team records including beating rival Kansas Wesleyan University for the first time since 2004. Under first year head coach, Papa Assane Ndiaye, the Swedes finished 8th in the confrence with a 6-9-3 overall record

The roster consisted of an entirely new starting eleven and coaching staff from last year's team. The seniors from the previous season were able to set the foundation for the program and their actions showed what great leaders can do to change a program around. From the coaching staff to the seniors Carlos Zamora, DJ Devoy, and Cameron Gordon "Thank you for all you have done for this program and your character set the example for what it truly means to be a Swede."

The team captains were junior's Nathan Asiedu and Eventz Malaska, both Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa transfers. Asiedu was the starting centerback for the Swedes in all 18 games and was a crucial part of the defense and even contributed offensively with 2 goals and 3 assists. Malaska was the captain in the mid-field starting in 15 games for the Swedes with 1 goal and 2 assists on the year. The goalkeeper that was the Swedes backbone all season long was junior Jake Goldstein. On the season, Goldstein had 2 clean sheets, 92 saves while giving up 26. The other key defenders for the Swedes were freshman contributors Angel Silva, Joshua Momodu, Inigo Fernandez and Vincent Ademodi who played in all 18 games.

On the offensive side, sophomore forward Josh Amador led the team with 5 goals. He started in only 10 games for the Swedes and showed early success to begin the year when he had the hat-trick against Oklahoma City University. Five Swede players finished the season with 4 goals. Those five were sophomore's Benito Ausley and Abraham Arrieta and freshmans Steven McQueen, Rhajneil Brown, and Joshua Momodu all had 4 goals on the year. Senior Carlos Zamora finished the season with 2 goals and 2 assists. The team leader in assists was freshman Shaid Mclean with 11 on the year. Unfortunately, none of the Swedes players took home any conference awards but this is only the beginning for the Bethany College Men's Soccer team.
