McPherson, Kan. – On Friday, August 25, the Swedes took the field to open their season against county opponent, the Central Christian College Tigers.
Central Christian would open the game with a shot on goal that was saved by starting goalie Jake Goldstein just 18 seconds into the match. Bethany would take note and play just as aggressive as Matthias Hooke would record a shot on goal in the 3rd minute, but it was blocked. In the 11th minute, the Tigers would jump on the board with a goal, but not even three minutes later, Josh Amador would put on in the back of the net assisted by Tahj Reid to even it up. The score would remain tied 1-1 at the half.
In the second half, the Swedes would take their first lead as Jarit Mejia would score one in the 53rd minute. The Tigers would even it up via penalty kick in the 63rd minute. Central Christian would take the lead in the 76th minute, but Bethany would even it up again in just the next minute by way of Josh Amador's second goal of the season. The match would end in heartbreak for the Swedes as the Tigers would score in the 90th minute to take this one 4-3.
As a team, Bethany only took 12 shots with 8 of them on goal while Central Christian took 25 shots with just 11 on goal.
Jake Goldstein played the entire 90 minutes and recorded 7 saves on the evening. Josh Amador and Tahj Reid tied for the team lead with 3 shots on goal. Amador scored twice while Reid assisted on both goals.
