Yankton, SD – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Soccer Team took the road to Yankton, South Dakota to face the Mount Marty University Lancers in the Swedes final non-conference matchup of the year, but would fall 2-1.
The Lancers came out looking to put one on the board attempting three shots in the first 14 minutes; all were saved by starting goalie Jake Goldstein. Benito Ausley would shoot the first shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the Lancers would follow up with a few more shots on goal until they finally put on through in the 42nd minute to go up 1-0. The Swedes would trail 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, Bethany would quickly tie it up at 1 by way of Josh Amador finding the back of the net with a little help from Fernando Villaseca & Jarit Mejia. In the 52nd minute, Mount Marty would miss a penalty kick to retake the lead. In the 70th minute, Steven McQueen would receive his second yellow card of the evening which equals a red card and disqualification. After McQueen's dismissal, the Lancers would try their best to capitalize on the Swedes' shortage, but would not be able to score until the 90th minute where Mount Marty would convert a penalty kick to seal it.
Although Josh Amador would score the lone goal for Bethany, David Ferreira would lead the Swedes in shots (2) and shots on goal (2). Jake Goldstein would rack up 12 saves on the evening.
