VILLASECA’S IMPRESSIVE GOAL NOT ENOUGH; SWEDES FALL 3-1

Leavenworth, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Men's Soccer Team to the road to Leavenworth, Kansas to take on the University of Saint Mary's Spires in a KCAC matchup.

The Swedes started off with a quick score from Fernando Villaseca. Villaseca would take a free kick from the sideline on the 20-yard line and place it in the back of the net after the ball maneuvered through both teams without being touched. That would be Villaseca's first goal of the season.

The Spires would ultimately tie it up in the 29th minute by way of a fast break score. Bethany would go into the break tied with Saint Mary 1-1.

In the second half, the Swedes would hold strong defensively, but the Spires would capitalize on a corner kick to take the lead. Saint Mary would ice the game in the final seconds to take this one 3-1.

Jake Goldstein drew the start as goalkeeper for the Swedes. Goldstein would record 10 saves on the evening.

The Swedes play host to the McPherson College Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 11th. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at the Coach Ted K. Kessinger Family Stadium.
