York, Neb. — The Bethany College Swedes Men's Soccer team faced York University on Wednesday afternoon in a match that was delayed 30 minutes due to lightning in the area.
Unfortunately, it was a tough outing for the Swedes, who struggled to find rhythm throughout the first half. York struck early, converting a penalty in the 3rd minute, and quickly added three more goals before halftime to take a 4–0 lead. Despite good energy, Bethany couldn't find consistency or composure in defense.
The second half began with another early goal for the Panthers, but the Swedes continued to push forward. In the 62nd minute, Karl-Heinz Morrow found the back of the net after a nice assist from Emmanuel Dukuly and Mordecai Masakwa, giving Bethany a consolation goal. The match ended 7–1 in favor of York.
While it was a difficult result, the Swedes will look to regroup and learn from the performance as conference play continues.
