BRICE EARNS GOLD; SWEDES COMPETE IN FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FIRST CHANCE QUALIFIERS

Wichita, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Indoor Track and Field teams opened 2026 in Wichita, Kan. to take part in the Friends University First Chance Qualifiers hosted by Friends University on Wichita State Universities campus.

Head Coach Daylon Smith had this to say about the Swedes' performances: "This weekend we headed down south to compete in the Friends University First Chance Qualifier. We had a good showing overall, getting some rust off and getting some solid marks early in the indoor season. We saw great improvements on Saturday, we had over 10 lifetime bests, five top 10 performances, and five top 5 performances with the addition of (So.) Dylan Brice winning the pole vault. A good sign for the future, a lot of growth from all of our event groups and now we are ready to get back into the rhythm of things and keep working! Go Swedes!"

There were some strong performances, but none better than pole vaulter Dylan Brice who nabbed himself a gold medal in his best event. On the women's side, Mercy Ynostrosa and Kaylee Dixon finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put.

10. Jaden King: 5:46 mile

11. Bryan Epperson: 4:59 mile, 10:04 - 3000m

Women's Results:

1. Kaylee Dixon: 10.97 shot put, 12.67 weight throw

2. Madison Kelley: 10.29 shot put, 12.09m weight throw

3. Mercy Ynostrosa: 11.57m shot put, 12.15m Weight Throw

4. Logan Pevehouse: 12:33 - 3000m

5. Katherine Stewart: 6:18 mile
