SWEDES LOSE ON A WALK OFF IN EXTRA INNINGS
San Antonio, TX - Bethany was up on Midland University the fifth and last game of the Saints Four Seasons Classic. A walk-off left the Swedes on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to the Warriors on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Swedes did collect 12 hits in the high-scoring game. Unfortunately, Midland University had nine hits on the way to victory.
The Swedes notched four runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Marissa Riley, Lilliana Martinez, Allison Rosa, and Shantell Evans, all driving in runs in the inning.
Martinez went yard in the first inning to put the Swedes up 2-0. The Swedes scored one run in the top of the fifth, Midland University answered with one of their own. Bethany then scored when Kierstyn McMillen singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Midland University then answered back with a solo homer. Making the score 8-5.
Midland University evened things up at eight in the bottom of the seventh inning. An error scored one run for Midland University. The game was tied at eight with Midland University batting in the bottom of the eighth when the Warriors singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Martinez started the game for Bethany College Swedes. The pitcher allowed seven hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out two. Sasha Martello went one and one-third innings, allowing one run on two hits and walking zero.
Bethany College Swedes scattered 12 hits in the game. Martinez, Myranda Jimenez, Melinda Cratty, Evans, and McMillen all managed multiple hits for Bethany College Swedes. Martinez went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Bethany College Swedes in hits.

Bethany Softball will be back in action on Saturday, February 18th against Hastings College. The double header is set to start at 1:00 PM for the first home games of the season.
