BETHANY SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER TO NO. 11 GRAND VIEW 

Lindsborg, Kan. - The Bethany College Softball team hosted the (11) Grand View University Vikings for a doubleheader. The Swedes got shut out 6 zip in the first game and lost 9-6 in the second game. 

 

Game 1

 

The Vikings scored a run in the first inning and another two in the top of the second. The Vikings had a final rally in the 4th inning scoring 3 more to make the score 6-0 where it would stay. 

 

The only two hits of the game for Bethany were recorded by Myranda Jimenez with a double to left field and a single up the middle by Shantell Evans

 

Lilliana Martinez toed the rubber for Bethany College Swedes. The righty went seven innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking one.

 

Game 2

 

Bethany started off with a rally in the bottom of the first inning putting four runs up on the board to make the score 4-0. Lilliana Martinez hit a monster three run HR to centerfield to put the Swedes on the board. Shantell Evans followed up with a base hit and moved into scoring position from a sac bunt before scoring on a passed ball. 

 

Grand View responded with seven runs in the second inning to put the Vikings up 7-4. No one would score until the bottom of the fifth inning when Katherine Range hit a no doubter over the left field fence to put the Swedes two behind the Vikings, 7-5. 

 

The Vikings then answered back with a long ball of their own, along with an RBI base hit to put the Vikings up 9-5. Martinez then hit a single and advanced to third on a beautifully placed bunt by Shantell Evans. Martinez shortly after stole home while no one was covering the bag, making the score 9-6 where it would end. 

 

Alyssa Reyes started on the mound and surrendered seven runs on five hits over 1.2 innings, striking out one. Cambree Aguirre came in to relieve and threw 5.1 innings giving up 6 hits and 2 runs while striking out one. 

 

Bethany racked up eight hits with Martinez and Marissa Riley collecting multiple hits in game 2. Martinez went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Bethany in hits.

The Swedes will be back on dirt this Wednesday, February 22nd against Haskell Indian Nations University. The doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 PM in Lawrence, Kan.
