SWEDES SHUTOUT INDIANS IN TEN INNINGS

Lawrence, Kan. - The Bethany College Softball team traveled to Haskell Indian Nations University to play against the Indians. The Swedes pushed 28 runs across the plate in 10 innings while allowing 0. Strong outings by Cambree Aguirre in the first game and Sasha Martello in the second game allowed the Swedes to secure two shutouts on the day. The Swedes took game one and two by the score of 14-0. 

 

Game 1

 

Bethany College Swedes got things started in the first inning when Shantell Evans singled on a 0-1 count, scoring Marissa Riley.

 

Kat Range drove in runs on a home run in the second, a double in the third, and a single in the fourth. The Swedes rallied and put up six runs in the fourth inning. Bethany applied pressure offensively with singles hit by Range and Melinda Cratty, a groundout RBI by Riley, and a double by Amaris Guerra.

 

Cambree Aguirre pitched the Swedes to victory. The righty went five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out seven and walking one.

 

Bethany tallied 13 hits. Range went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs. Guerra, Range, Destiny Espinosa, and Riley all managed multiple hits for Bethany. Guerra also tallied three hits in the game. Range and Lilliana Martinez went yard in the second inning. Bethany was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error on the field. 

 

Game 2

 

Bethany got things started in the first inning by loading the bases with a base hit, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch. Allison Rosa then drove in two runs with a double, scoring Marissa Riley and Melinda Cratty.

 

The Swedes had a big inning and put up four runs in the top of the fifth. Shantell Evans, Danielle Woolsey, Myranda Jimenez, and Kat Range all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

 

Sasha Martello was the winning pitcher for Bethany. The righty threw a complete game shutout, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out three and walking zero.

 

The Swedes saw the ball well today, racking up 15 hits in the game. Evans, Lilliana Martinez, Range, Cratty, and Riley all had multiple hits for Bethany. Martinez and Evans each collected three hits to lead Bethany in game 2. The Swedes didn't commit a single error in the field.

The Bethany College Softball team will be hosting William Penn University on Sunday, February 26th. The doubleheader is set to start at 1:00PM.
