SWEDES SPLIT WITH TIGERS
Lindsborg, Kan. - The Swedes Softball team hosted the Central Christian Tigers for a non-conference matchup. The Swedes scored 12 runs in the first game, allowing them to secure the win against the Tigers. The Swedes were only able to score 3 runs in the second game and allowed 7, resulting in a 7-3 loss.
Game 1
Offense was a big part of the game as the Swedes had 12 hits and the Tigers had 6 hits of their own. Kierstyn McMillen had a day, starting off with a sac fly in the second inning, scoring the Swedes first run of the day. Lilliana Martinez then launched a solo HR to center field. Shantell Evans then went back-to-back, going yard on the first pitch. McMillen then hit an inside the park grand slam with a line drive to right field, making the score 7-4. In the 4th inning McMillen then hit a single up the middle, scoring Myranda Jimenez for the second time in the game. Destiny Espinosa stole home on a passed ball, making the score 9-4.
Central Christian rallied two runs, making the score 9-6. Kat Range answered back and hit a 2 run HR to left field. Callissa Lucero then scored on a ground ball by Marissa Riley. Making the score 12-9.
Cambree Aguirre started the game for the Swedes. The righthander went three innings, allowing four runs on two hits and striking out two. Dara Muller then entered the game and allowed two hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one. Muller left with the lead as Jordyn Stelzig and Sasha Martello entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Bethany scattered 12 hits in the game. McMillen, Espinosa, and Jimenez each racked up multiple hits for the Swedes. They each recorded two hits during the game.
Game 2
The Tigers got on the board in the 1st inning with an error followed by a single, scoring one run. The Tigers rallied and scored 6 runs by the 3rd inning. The Swedes managed to get on the board in the 6th inning with a 3 run rally. The Swedes' bats in the 6th were led by a triple by Kat Range and a single by Myranda Jimenez. The rally was not enough and the Swedes dropped the game 7-3.
Lilliana Martinez allowed three hits and six runs over three innings, striking out two. Sasha Martello came in and finished the game, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
Shantell Evans, Melinda Cratty, Emma Gray, Jimenez, and Range each collected one for the Swedes.
