SWEDES CHIP AWAY IN SECOND GAME; NOT ENOUGH TO SWEEP PANTHERS
York, Neb. - The Swede Softball team traveled North to play the York University Panthers. Bethany handled business in the first game, winning 6-2. York woke up in the second game, putting up 6 runs by the 3rd inning. Bethany chipped away scoring 8 runs in the last few innings, but it was not enough as the Panthers took game two, 11-8.
Game 1
Bethany fired up the offense in the second inning when Marissa Riley singled on a 1-1 count and scored a run, 1-0.
The Swedes kept the momentum going in the top of the third inning with a 4 run rally due to a single by Riley, error of a ball put in play by Sasha Martello and a double by Kat Range, 5-0.
Bethany scored another run in the top of the 6th inning when Lilliana Martinez doubled to left field and scored on a single by Melinda Cratty, making the score 6-0.
The Panthers did not reach base until the bottom of the 5th inning when Noelker reached on an error. York was unable to push a run across until the 6th inning when Underwood singled on a bunt on 2 outs, recording the Panthers first hit of the game. Chapman followed up with a single to right field, advancing Underwood to third base. Arceo then hit a single to center field, scoring Underwood and Chapman, making the score 6-2.
Sasha Martello pitched a complete 7 inning game allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and collected a career high of 11 strikeouts in a single game. Martello went 1-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and 2 runs.
The Swedes collected 13 hits, 4 walks and scored 5 earned runs. Kierstyn McMillen, Amaris Guerra, Lilliana Martinez and Kat Range each hit doubles. Melinda Cratty, Kat Range, Sasha Martello (2) and Marissa Riley each collected an RBI.
Game 2
York put up an early lead in game two with a 5 run rally in the bottom of the 2nd inning. A hit-by-pitch, a handful of singles and a double would account for the Panther rally.
The Swedes got on the board in the top of the 3rd inning with a lead off single by Myranda Jimenez. Marissa Riley put a sac bunt down, advancing Jimenez to 3rd base. The Swedes then loaded the bases by taking 2 walks. Shantell Evans then reached base on an error, scoring Jimenez and making the score 5-1.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning the Panthers answered back when Anderson hit a solo homer to left field.
Swedes pushed another run across in the top of the 4th inning when pinch runner Callissa Lucero stole second base and advanced to third base from a groundout. Jimenez then hit an RBI ground ball to right side to make the score 6-2.
The Panthers then rallied 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with a couple singles, hit-by-pitch and a double, making the score 9-2.
In the top of the 5th inning the Swedes got back in the game when Kat Range hit a monster grand slam to left field, making the score 9-6.
In the bottom of the 6th inning the Panthers scored a couple insurance runs, with a double to left field and a 2 run home run by Anderson, her second of the game, making the score 11-6.
In the top of the 7th the Swedes scored 2 more runs with runners scoring on passed balls, making the score 11-8.
Cambree Aguirre started on the mound throwing 1.2 innings and giving up 6 hits, 5 earned runs and collecting a strikeout. Jordan Stelzig then came in to relieve, giving up 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 1 walk and collecting 2 strikeouts. Lilliana Martinez finished the game on the mound, throwing 2.2 innings, giving up 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk and collected 4 strikeouts.
The Swedes had 6 total hits and 7 walks. Kat Range went 2-for-2 at the plate with 4 RBIs, 2 walks, and a run. Myranda Jimenez went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run.

The Swedes will be back on the dirt this Saturday, April 15th against Kansas Wesleyan University. First pitch of the double header is set for 1:00 PM. Senior Night will be celebrated after the doubleheader.
