SWEDES CRUISE BY CRUSADERS IN DOUBLE WIN SEASON OPENER
Farmers Branch, TX.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road, Friday, February 9th in Farmers Branch, TX to take on the Dallas Christian Crusaders in their season opener double header.
Game 1: The Swedes had a quick start to their first game, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Katherine Range brought in three RBIs from her double to left field and Ulissa Rivas brought in one RBI with her double to center field giving the Swedes a 4-0 start. The Crusaders managed to score a run in the bottom of the first inning but that would be their only score of the game. Bethany would score again in the top of the fifth with a triple by Shantell Evans bringing home Melinda Cratty for the RBI and leading Dallas Christian 5-1. Next inning also proved fruitful for the Swedes who scored twiced, the first came from Allison Rosa who brought home Maggie Heath with her single to left field with bases loaded. The next run would come from Melinda Cratty who managed to bring home Ulissa Rivas in what would be a double play for the Crusaders. The score was 7-1 going into the 7th inning. Bethany would score three more runs before the end of the game. Katherine Range nailed a homer to left field with MacKenzie McCaslin on base for the 2 RBI. And Ulissa Rivas knocked out a double to left field bringing home Tamia Butler for the single RBI. Final score of the game was 10-1 in favor of the Swedes.
Game 2: The Crusaders were the first to score in the second game against the Swedes leading 2-0 going into the third inning. Bethany would respond with a triple RBI homerun to right field by Lilliana Martinez. The Swedes held onto the lead through the end of the third inning and would score a single homerun by Ulissa Rivas in the top of the fourth inning. Dallas Christian got hot in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 4 runs to take the lead, 7-4 heading into the fifth inning. The Swedes were determined to shut down the Crusaders. Shantell Evans knocked out a homer to center field with bases loaded earning 4 RBIs and leading Dallas Christian 8-7. The Crusaders managed to score in the bottom of the fifth tying it up going into the top of the sixth inning. The rest of game would be controlled by the Swedes who scored another seven runs before the end of the game. Final score of game two was 15-8 in favor of Bethany.

Bethany will be hosting the Hastings College Broncos in their home opener Saturday February 17th. The double header is set for 1 and 3 pm on the Swedes Softball Field.
