UNABLE TO VANQUISH THE VALOR, SWEDES FALL 0-2

Springfield, MO.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road Saturday, March 16th playing the Evangel University Valor in a weekend double header.

Game 1: After a strong start with a homerun by Lilliana Martinez to left field in the top of the first inning and earning the first run of the game, 1-0, the Swedes struggled to keep the momentum going. Evangel would come back and dominate the third inning, scoring 7 runs, 1-7. Bethany tried to get hot but Evangel would score again in the 4th inning, putting it away. Final score 1-10 in five innings.

Morgan Pennycuff started in the circle for Bethany and faced 15 batters and threw 39 strikes out of 58 pitches before being relieved by Dylann Baker who faced 10 batters and thew 27 strikes out of 33 pitches.

Game 2: Slower paced game for both teams in Game 2, with only one run being scored. Neither side could get much going with several chances to score throughout the game. It wasn't until the bottom of the 6th did Evangel score, 0-1. The Swedes tried to respond but in the end couldn't make it happen. Final score 0-1 in favor of the Valor.

Lilliana Martinez faced 23 batters in Game 2 and threw 55 strikes out of 77 pitches.

Bethany will be hosting a weekday double header Wednesday, March 20th at 1 and 3pm against the Tabor College Bluejays.
