York, Neb.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road in a weekday double header, Thursday, March 23rd to take on the York University Panthers. The Swedes split with the Panthers. Game went to York after finishing 2-1 in extra innings and Game 2 went to the Swedes finishing 4-1.
Game 1: Slow start to Game 1 for both teams who held the other off until the bottom of the 4th inning. The Panthers were first on the board with a single run scored heading into the 5th inning. The Swedes would respond with a run of their own. Destiny Espinosa grounded one out to second which allowed Tamia Butler to advance home. The Game was tied at 1-1 which forced extra innings. Unfornately for the Swedes, in the bottom of the 9th inning, York was able to score which ended the game, final score 2-1 in favor of the Panthers.
Dylann Baker in the circle for Bethany for Game 1 and faced 32 batters and threw 75 strikes out of 101 pitches.
Game 2: The Swedes came out hot for Game 2 with a homer to right center by Lilliana Martinez in the top of the 2nd inning, earning their first run. The Panthers made it on the board in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a single that advanced a runner home, tying up the score at 1-1. Brianna Lopez up to bat for the Swedes in the top of the 4th inning who hit a single and advanced to second base after a bad throw to first base which gave the opportunity for Shantell Evans to score, 2-1. Bethany didn't stop there and scored two more runs in the top of the 5th after a sacrifice flyout to right field by Lilliana Martinez which allowed Destiny Espinosa and Briana Buck to score, 4-1. The Swedes kept the Panthers from rallying and finished out the game, final score was 4-1 in favor of the Swedes.
Lilliana Martinez started on the mound for Game 2 and faced 26 batters and threw 49 strikes out of 73 pitches before being relieved by Morgan Pennycuff. Morgan Pennycuff faced 3 batters and threw 7 strikes out of 11 pitches before closing out Game 2.

Bethany will be on the road for a weekend double header, Saturday, March 30th at 1 and 3pm at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, taking on the 25-8 Eagles.
