SWEDES BREAK EVEN IN BARTLESVILLE, OKLA.
Bartlesville, Okla.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road in a weekend double header, Saturday, March 30th to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles. The Swedes split with the Eagles. Game went to OKWU after finishing 4-2 and Game 2 went to the Swedes finishing 2-1.
Game 1: Slow start for the Swedes in Game 1 who wouldn't score until late in the game. The Eagles took control of the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning, earning the first run of the game, 1-0. Both teams managed to keep the other from scoring in the 4th inning but OKWU would get hot in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Eagles extended their lead to four after scoring an additional three runs, 4-0. It wasn't until the top of the 7th inning did the Swedes find their rhythm. Katherine Range hit a double to right center which opened the door for Tamia Butler to score, 4-1. Followed by Melinda Cratty with her single to left center which allowed Allison Rosa to score, 4-2. Unfortunately, the Eagles would hold the Swedes to only the two runs. Final score 4-2, Eagles win.
Dylann Baker in the circle for Bethany for Game 1 and faced 17 batters and threw 37 strikes out of 48 pitches before being relieved by Jordan Stelzig. Jordan Stelzig faced 11 batters and threw 26 strikes out of 39.
Game 2: The Swedes took advantage of a throwing error made by the Eagles and scored in the top of the 1st inning, 1-0, shifting momentum in their favor. Melinda Cratty managed to score after a popup to second base by Shantell Evans which advanced Destiny Espinosa to second base and sent Cratty home but the error made by the second baseman gave the Swedes the run. Things would go quiet for both teams until the 5th inning where the Swedes would once again score. Destiny Espinosa hit a single to right field which advanced the runners and sent Brianna Lopez home, 2-0. The Eagles tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the 6th with a run scored, 2-1 but the Swedes held them off. Final score was 2-1, Swedes win.
Lilliana Martinez started on the mound for Game 2 and faced 30 batters and threw 82 strikes out of 110 pitches before being relieved by Morgan Pennycuff. Morgan Pennycuff threw 3 strikes out of 5 pitches before closing out Game 2.
