SWEDES SPLIT WITH THRESHERS AFTER GAME 1 SHUTOUT
North Newton, Kan.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road, Tuesday, April 9th taking on the Bethel College Threshers in a weekday double header. The Swedes split with the Threshers. Game 1 went to Bethel after finishing 1-0 and Game 2 went to Bethany, finishing 8-2.
Game 1: Not much action in Game 1 as the Threshers hit a single to left field in the bottom of the 2nd inning to advance the runners and score the only run of the game, 1-0.
Dylann Baker in the circle for Bethany for Game 1 and faced 24 batters and threw 43 strikes out of 65 pitches.
Game 2: After being shutout in Game 1, the Swedes came out bound and determined to makeup for it and walk away with a split. Bethany would score six runs in the top of the 1st inning in Game 2. Destiny Espinosa kicked things off for the Swedes with a single to shortstop which gave Melinda Cratty the opportunity to score for the early lead, 1-0. Shantell Evans was next who got on base via error which allowed Brianna Lopez to score, 2-0. Tamia Butler kept things going with a single up the middle to send Destiny Espinosa home, 3-0. The Threshers tried to stop the Swedes and get out of the inning but Caitlin Myers hit a single down the left field line to earn a RBI with Shantell Evans scoring, 4-0, which kept the Swedes' momentum trending upwards. Allison Rosa hit a single to left center, bringing home Ulissa Rivas, 5-0. And lastly, Melinda Cratty hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Tamia Butler, 6-0. Bethel finally ending the first inning and held the Swedes to 6 runs until the 6th inning. Where Bethany would score an additional two runs. Tamia Butler made it on base via fielder's choice and Destiny Espinosa scored, 7-0. Brianna Buck would hit a single up the middle as the final run for the Swedes, which allowed Shantell Evans to score, 8-0. The Threshers would go on to score two runs before the end of the game. Final score was 8-2.
Lilliana Martinez started on the mound for Game 2 and faced 26 batters and threw 65 strikes out of 90 pitches before being relieved by Morgan Pennycuff. Morgan Pennycuff faced 3 batters and threw 9 strikes out of 12 pitches.
