SWEDES COME UP SHORT IN KWU DOUBLE HEADER

Salina, Kan.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road, Wednesday, April 24th, to take on the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in a weekday double header. The Swedes fell in Game 1, 0-2 and fell in Game 2, 1-2.

Game 1: The Swedes came out hungry for a win as their season nears its end against conference rivals the Coyotes. The Coyotes were first on the board with a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning, 0-1. Only down by 1, Bethany worked to change the tide but Kansas Wesleyan was keeping them from creating momentum. The Coyotes scored again in the bottom of the 5th inning, 0-2 after a fielding error. This would be the last score of the game. Final score was 0-2 in favor of the Coyotes.

Dylann Baker in the circle for Bethany for Game 1 and faced 25 batters and threw 61 strikes out of 93 before being relieved by Morgan Pennycuff. Morgan Pennycuff faced 2 batters and threw 6 strikes out of 9 pitches.

Game 2:  Determined to split the double header, the Swedes kept the Coyotes from scoring throughout the first six innings. Top of the 6th inning, Ulissa Rivas hit a double to left field, sending Shantell Evans home to score the first run of the game, 1-0. But the Coyotes would respond with two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to take Game 2, 1-2.

Lilliana Martinez started on the mound for Game 2 and faced 25 batters and threw 63 strikes out of 87 pitches before being relieved by Morgan Pennycuff. Morgan Pennycuff faced 2 batters and threw 4 strikes out of 5 pitches.

Bethany will be hosting the Ottawa University Braves in their final regular season games, Friday, April 26th in a weekday double header starting at 3pm, weather permitting.
