SWEDES SIGN OFF AFTER SPLIT WITH OTTAWA

Lindsborg, Kan.- The Bethany College Swedes hosted the Ottawa University Braves for their final regular season double header, Friday, April, 26th. The Swedes took Game 1, 9-6 and fell in Game 2, 0-8 for the overall split.

Game 1: Electric 1st inning for the Swedes who scored six runs over the Braves starting with Tamia Butler who was hit by a pitch which advanced Melinda Cratty home for the first run, 1-0. Next, Katherine Range singled to center field and brought home Shantell Evans, 2-0. After that Caitlyn Myers was walked and advanced Tamia Butler for the 3rd run of the game, 3-0. Followed by a single by Allison Rosa to center field which opened the door for Maggie Heath to score, 4-0. And lastly, Melinda Cratty hit a single to left field for 2 RBI, Caitlyn Myers and Katherine Ranged scored, 6-0. The Braves weren't able to respond until the top of the 3rd inning where they chipped away half of the lead, scoring three runs, 6-3. Katherine Range would have something to say to this with a home run to left center in the bottom of the 3rd inning, 7-3. However, the Braves would come close to tying up the game in the top of the 4th inning after scoring an additional three runs making the score 7-6 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning. The Swedes kicked it into high gear and would solidify their chances for a win after a single to center field by Shantell Evans who brought home Brianna Buck, 8-6. Followed by a single to center field by Katherine Range in which opened the door for Shantell Evans to score, 9-6. That would be the final run of the game with the final score being 9-6 in favor of the Swedes.

Dylann Baker in the circle for Bethany for Game 1 and faced 19 batters and threw 46 strikes out of 67 before being relieved by Morgan Pennycuff. Morgan Pennycuff faced 18 batters and threw 47 strikes out of 74 pitches.

Game 2:  Unlike Game 1, the Swedes would struggle scoring in Game 2 and would be shutout by the Braves in 5 innings. Ottawa would score 1 run in the 1st inning, 3 runs in the 2nd inning and finally, 4 runs in the 5th inning. Final score was 0-8 in favor of the Braves.

Lilliana Martinez started on the mound for Game 2 and faced 15 batters and threw 35 strikes out of 56 pitches before being relieved by Jordyn Stelzig. Jordyn Stelzig faced 12 batters and threw 30 strikes out of 46 pitches.
