Lindsborg, Kan.- The Bethany College Swedes were on the road at McPherson College taking on the Bulldogs, Wednesday, April 16th for a double header that started at 2pm.
Game 1: The Swedes started off with some momentum and were first on the board after scoring two runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Abigail Taylor singled up the center which allowed for Tamia Butler to score, 1-0. Followed by a sacrifice flyout by Maggie Heath for Abigail Taylor to score, 2-0. The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the 4th inning with a single that led to one run scored, 2-1. Bethany would sit idle until the top of the 7th when they hit the gas. Samantha Gomez singled to left field and advanced to second on the throw which opened the door for Kalee Aguilar to score, 3-1. Lastly, Abigail Nitzel hit a single up the middle giving way for Vryah Morgan to score, 4-1. Final score, 4-1, the Swedes win by three.
Dylann Baker started in the circle for Bethany and faced 26 batters and threw 71 strikes out of 98 pitches and earned a 1.28 ERA. Notable stats include, Tamia Butler with 1 run on 2 hits, Abigail Nitzel with 2 hits and 1 RBI, and Abigail Taylor with 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 RBI.
Game 2: Promising start for Bethany in the second game, earning the first run in the top of the 1st inning. Shantell Evans hit a sacrifice fly to center field which allowed Megan O'Neal to score, 1-0. Unfortunately, that would be the only run scored by the Swedes in shortened innings. The Bulldogs would go on to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Final score, 1-9, the Swedes fall by 8 in five innings.
Jordyn Stelzig was on the mound to start for Bethany in Game 2 and faced 12 batters and threw 24 strikes out of 44 pitches. Paris Hammer came into relieve Stelzig and faced 12 batters and threw 24 strikes out of 44 pitches. MacKenzie McCaslin finished in the circle for Bethany and faced 4 batters and threw 8 strikes out of 12 pitches.
