SWEDES SWEEP SOUTHWESTERN

Winfield, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes were on the road again, this time in Winfield, Kan., to take on the Moundbuilders.  Originally this series was supposed to be played on Saturday, April 19, but, due to potential rain, the games were bumped up to Friday, April 18, beginning at 4:00 PM.

Game 1: The Swedes handled business early scoring six RBI in the first two innings highlighted by an Abigail Taylor triple to left field that scored Tamia Butler in the first inning and a Butler single to left field that scored Abigail Nitzel and Vryah Morgan to make it 6-0. The Swedes would cool the jets for the rest of the contest cruising to a 6-2 victory in Game 1.

Shantell Evan, Maggie Heath, and Tamia Butler would each account for two hits while Evans and Butler each tallied two RBI. Dylan Baker had another solid outing holding the Moundbuilders to just one earned run over seven innings of work.

Game 2: Game 2 went completely opposite of Game 1 with the Swedes starting slow, but ending the contest early via the run-rule of ten after five innings.

Destiny Espinosa had her best game of the year going four-for-four from the plate while driving in two runs. Samantha Gomez also had a perfect day at the plate going three-for-three with five RBI. In the circle, Jordyn Stelzig would last all five innings striking out three of the 21 batters faced.

The Swedes are set to face-off against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes at home on Tuesday, April 22, for an evening doubleheader beginning at 4:00 PM.
