Lindsborg, KS. - On Saturday Dec 3rd the Bethany College Swedes Women's Basketball Team played against the Sterling Warriors where the women dropped a heartbreaker when the Warriors scored a basket with 14.7 seconds left in play.

The Swedes landed on the score board first when Emily Weathers made a jump shot. The Warriors quickly retaliated evening up the score. At the end of the first half the Swedes maintained a lead of 23 to 19. Sarah Reiner and Lauren Gleason both scored 6 points for the Swedes in the first half. Emily Weathers scored a total of 5 points. Ending the second quarter the Swedes still maintained a lead against the Warriors 40 to 36. Emily Weathers scored a total of 7 points the second quarter. 

 

Going into the second half of play, the Swedes still maintained the lead 60 to 53. Sarah Reiner sank a total of 6 points in the third quarter. Going into the fourth quarter the Swedes still maintained the lead until the Warriors began to even up the score. With 14 seconds left on the clock after evening the score 69 to 69 Sterling managed to sink a layup securing them the win 71 to 69. 

 

Sterling held two leads in this game as the Bethany forced the 10th ranked Warriors into an uphill struggle throughout.With 8:50 in the first quarter, they were up 4-2 and then with 49.7 seconds left.The rest of the time Bethany enjoyed leads of up to 10, 65-55 with 7:46 in regulation, but Sterling went to Karsen Schultz and the 5-9 transfer from Emporia State would score 19 of her 23 points in the second half, including a perfect 9 of 9 at the line to force a tie at 69.

 

Bethany was led by Emily Weathers and Sarah Reiner with 18 points each. Lauren Gleason was good for 13 points. Bethany shot 44 percent from the field (30 of 68) to 42.9 for Sterling (24 of 56). The Warriors won the battle on the glass 38-22 and the Swedes committed 17 turnovers to 20 for Sterling. The game against the Warriors was the second straight loss for the women dropping their record to 6-5, 4-2 in conference play.

Bethany will be face off against the Tabor Bluejays next Wednesday at home.
