SWEDES END SHORT SKID; TOP BLUE JAYS

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women's Basketball Team hosted the Tabor College Blue Jays for the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

Sarah Reiner would open up the scoring with a layup. The Blue Jays would get on the board next with a three-pointer to take the lead. Autumn Garrett would help Bethany regain the lead with two free throws, but Tabor would score 7 straight points to take a 10-4 lead. Lauren Gleason, R'Manie Pulling, and Martina Aeschliman would combine for nine points to outscore the Blue Jays 9-3 to tie it up at 13 apiece. To start the 2nd quarter, Pulling would drain a jump shot followed by an Emily Weathers made jump shot to take a 17-13 lead in favor of Bethany. Tabor would score 5 consecutive points to take a lead, but that wouldn't last long as Angie Lopez would convert a layup off an assist from Emily Green to retake the lead. In the 2nd period, there were a total of 10 lead-changes that ended with the Swedes taking a 29-28 lead into halftime.

To continue the back-and-forth, the Blue Jays would open up the 2nd half with a layup to take the lead back. That lead wouldn't last long as Bethany would go on a 13-2 run over the next 5 and a half minutes to take a double-digit lead with 3:50 left on the clock. Tabor would cut the lead down to five points going into the fourth quarter. In the final period, the Swedes would maintain at least a two-possession lead throughout the entire period and come out with a 60-50 win over the Blue Jays.

 R'Manie Pulling would lead the scoring attack for Bethany with 13 points on 50% shooting as well as in assists with 5. Emily Green would lead the Swedes in rebounds with 6 total rebounds (3 offensive, 3 defensive). Emily Weathers would tally 2 steals and 3 blocks.

Bethany would shoot 46.8% from the floor (22-47) but 50% from deep (3-6) while Tabor would convert 34% & 27.8% of their field goals, respectively. The Swedes would outrebound the Blue Jays to the tune of 29 to 22. Bethany outscored Tabor in three of four quarters. There was a total of 5 ties and 15 lead-changes in this one.

Next up for the Swedes is a road trip to York, Nebraska for the first of two conference matchups with the York University Panthers. Tipoff is scheduled for 3pm at the Freeman Center.
