Swedes Secure Solid Win Against Moundbuilders

Lindsborg, KS- The Bethany College Swedes Women's Basketball Team stayed at home to face off the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. 

The Swedes opened the game 23-6 against the Moundbuilders. Kisa Unruh scored a total of 7 points for the Swedes this quarter with 2 of those being 3-pointers. Emily Green had a total of 5 rebounds for the Swedes out of the team's 13 for the first quarter. 

In the second period, 6 different Swedes would score for a total of 15 points for the Swedes. Bethany would extend the lead to 26 points and go into halftime up 38-12. 

Starting off the second half the Swedes scored a total of 26 points with 10 rebounds and 8 assists. The Swedes finished out the game strong with a 46-point lead with a score of 80-34.

Emily Weathers would lead the Swedes in scoring with 17 points in the contest. Kisa Unruh made a total of 10 points with 3 of those being 3 pointers for the Swedes. Emily Green also made a total of 10 points for the Swedes and leading the number of rebounds with 9. Sarah Reiner followed closely behind in rebounds with 7. 

As a team, the Swedes would shoot a 48% from the floor (36 for 75). Bethany would hold Southwestern to 23.9% shooting from deep (11 for 46). The Swedes had a total of 40 rebounds throughout the game compared to Southwestern 25 rebounds. Off of Southwestern's 34 turnovers the Swedes managed to score a total of 43 points. The Swedes held a 3-point percentage of 26.7% with a 4-15. Additionally, the Swedes had a total of 23 assists. 

Head Coach Keith Ferguson: "Our speed and defense was a huge positive for us tonight. We are fortunate to have quite a few girls who can play different positions in a 94-foot defense and we were able to use a number of combinations (tonight). The upcoming break will give us some time to get a couple of injuries healed, because we need them."

After the break, Sierra Kimbrough and Kennedy Becker are projected to be back in the lineup.

 The Bethany College Swedes will travel to play against the Fort Hays State University Tigers on Monday, December 19. Tipoff is scheduled for 6pm CT.
