SWEDES HOLD STRONG; EARN FIRST WIN OF NEW YEAR

McPherson, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women's Basketball team took a short trip to McPherson, Kansas to face off against the McPherson College Bulldogs to open the new year.

The Swedes would find themselves ahead after the first quarter of play 20-15 led by sophomore Kisa Unruh and junior Emily Weathers who combined for 9 of the Swedes 20 points.

In the second period of play, Weathers would start to take control scoring 7 points to help Bethany stretch the lead to 9 going into the break.

R'Manie Pulling would begin to cook in the second half where she would score 20 of her team-high 25 points. The Swedes would dominate the 4^th quarter to the tune of 23-9 to close out the Bulldogs 80-59 and start off the new year on the right foot.

Emily Weathers secured her first double-double of the year scoring 22 points while hauling in 11 rebounds.

R'Manie Pulling would dish out 6 assists and tally 5 steals to go along with her 25 points on the night; all team-highs.

Kisa Unruh would show some defensive prowess stuffing 2 Bulldog shot attempts.

As a team, the Swedes would shoot 47.5% from the floor while holding the Bulldogs to 30.6% shooting. Bethany currently sits second in the conference in team defensive shooting percentage as well as first in offensive field goal percentage since conference play has begun.

Bethany would outscore McPherson in paint points (36 to 22) as well as fastbreak points (16 to 11).

The Swedes will have the weekend off for their bye, but return to action on January 11^th, 2023 when Bethany takes I-135 down to North Newton, Kansas to face on the Bethel College Threshers in their lone matchup of the season. Tipoff is set for 6pm.
