SWEDES SECURE SOLID WIN AGAINST MOUNDBUILDERS

Winfield, KS...

Saturday afternoon the Bethany College Swedes Women's Basketball team traveled to Winfield KS to face off against the Southwestern Moundbuilders. 

The Swedes secured their first 2-points in the 8th minute by Emily Weathers. The Swedes quickly began to shut down the Moundbuilders, gaining themselves a lead 21-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Swedes started off the second quarter strong as Autumn Garrett quickly sank a 3-pointer. The Swedes continued with free throws and layups. Mackenzie Noll sank another 3-pointer for the Swedes the last 30seconds of the second quarter. The second quarter ended 46-19. 

Starting the second half, the Swedes quickly sank a free throw. Kisa Unruh made a 3-point jump shot in the 8th minute of the game. The Swedes continued to hold their lead ending the third quarter 65-32. In the fourth quarter, R'Maine Pulling sank another 3-pointer for the Swedes in the 8th minute and then another one in the 7th minute. In the 3rd minute of the game and the last 30seconds Sierra Kimbrough sank a 3-pointer. Kassi Ballard sank another 3-pointer for the Swedes in the last minute and a half of the game. Angie Lopez made the final layup of the game resulting in the final score 99 to 46. 

Leading scorer for the game was number 25, Emily Weathers with 23 points secured. Second leading goal scorer, R'Maine Pulling with 13 points. Emily Green and Kennedy Becker were leading rebounders for the Swedes with 6 throughout the game.  Field goal percentage for the Swedes was 57.6% compared to Southwestern percentage of 26.4%. The Swedes had a total of 39 rebounds, 27 assists and 33 points off turnovers.

The Swedes will face off against the McPherson Bulldogs for their senior night. Bethany needs to win this regular season finale to lock in the 2-seed for the KCAC playoffs. Tipoff is set for 6pm Wednesday, February 15. See you there!
