DUNN EARNS DEFENSIVE POTY; 6 SWEDES RECEIVE ALL-KCAC HONORS
Wichita, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2022-23 KCAC Women's Basketball all-conference teams and award winners. Student-athletes were selected for all awards by vote of the KCAC head women's basketball coaches.
Sterling College took the regular-season conference title after going 21-1 in KCAC play, as part of a 24-4 overall record. Taya Wilson, a senior forward for the Warriors, was named the KCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Karsen Schultz of Sterling was named the conference's Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year and the Warriors' Kali Briar was named the KCAC Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year.
Bethany College had quite a few award winners as 6 Swedes where recognized with All-KCAC Honors.
Kylie Dunn was named the KCAC Defensive Player of the Year! Dunn was a key piece of a Swedes' defensive unit that had the top defensive efficiency in conference play at .732. The Swedes also allowed the lowest shot percentage to opponents this year holding foes to 27.6% shooting for long-range and 35.6% from the floor overall. The Swedes also forced the most turnovers per game (20.6) including leading the KCAC in steals per game (11.0) during conference play.
Emily Weathers was named as All-KCAC First Team! Weathers led the KCAC in Field Goal Percentage (55.5%), third in field goals made (121), and sixth in total points scored (305).
R'Manie Pulling was named as All-KCAC Second Team! Pulling was fourth in Free Throw Percentage (82.9%) as well as seventh in total assists (70). R'Manie was fourth with 62 assists during KCAC play.
Autumn Garrett was named as All-KCAC Third Team! Garrett was tenth in steals (35) in the KCAC during conference play.
Sarah Reiner was recognized as All-KCAC Honorable Mention! Reiner was fifth in field goal percentage (52.3%) and fourteenth in blocks (13) during conference play.
Kisa Unruh was recognized as All-KCAC Honorable Mention! Unruh was third in three-pointers made (46) and fourth in three-point percentage (41.8%) during conference play.
