SWEDES SHOW GRIT IN ROAD TEST VS. NORTHERN COLORADO
Greeley, CO. - The Bethany College women's basketball team traveled west for a challenging non-conference matchup against NCAA Division I opponent Northern Colorado, falling 84–52 but gaining valuable experience against top-tier competition.
Despite the difference in division level, the Swedes competed with energy and toughness, especially throughout the first half. Bethany trailed by just one after the opening quarter (21–22) and continued to show composure offensively before the Bears used a strong second half to pull away.
Bethany was led by Janae Black-Harmon, who posted a team-high 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting, providing efficient scoring inside and controlling the paint early. Colbi Rignell added 9 points, knocking down key shots in the first half to keep the Swedes within striking distance. Ray Richardson provided a spark off the bench, scoring 7 points, while Hannah Moss contributed 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Swedes moved the ball well against Northern Colorado's pressure, finishing with 10 assists, and battled on the boards, earning 32 rebounds—just six fewer than the DI Bears. Bethany also forced 18 turnovers, turning several defensive stops into transition opportunities. Northern Colorado, however, capitalized on its size and depth, shooting 48% from the field and 70% at the free-throw line while placing four players in double figures.
