Swedes Battle Hard in Home Loss to Sterling
The Bethany College women's basketball team showed grit and determination Wednesday evening at Hahn Gymnasium, but ultimately fell 68–58 to a sharp-shooting Sterling squad. Despite the tough loss, the Swedes displayed resilience, especially in the second half, as they continued to chip away at Sterling's lead.
Sophomore guard Becca Unruh led the charge for Bethany, dropping 19 points and knocking down two threes while logging 35 minutes of play. Colbi Rignell added 10 points and dished out five assists, helping the Swedes find rhythm offensively after a slow start. In the paint, Janae Black-Harmon and Jae'Mya Lyons provided a strong inside presence, combining for 15 points and 19 rebounds.
Bethany outworked Sterling on the boards with 39 total rebounds, including 17 offensive, which translated into 16 second-chance points. However, cold shooting from beyond the arc (4-of-23) and Sterling's timely scoring proved to be the difference.
Though the final score didn't swing Bethany's way, the Swedes showed promise, depth, and hustle; key ingredients as they look to bounce back in their next matchup.
