SWEDES BLANKED BY MOUNDBUILERS

Winfield, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women's Soccer Team traveled down to Winfield, Kansas to face off against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders.

Played started of slow as the first shot attempt was not taken until the 20th minute in which the Moundbuilders would miss high. Andrea Garza took the matches first shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but it was saved. Southwestern would break the tie in the 37th minute of play and add on to their lead just six minutes later to go into the break up 2-0.

In the second half, the Swedes would try to attack early, but they were not able to cut the Moundbuilders' lead. Southwestern would tack on one more score before the match would end and take this one 3-0.

Ariana Hurley and Mariah Ibanez would each attempt a team-high 2 shot attempts. Hurley would tally 2 shots on goal. Sydney Newberg got the nod to start as keeper and would record 8 saves over the course of the match.

As a team, Bethany would tally 7 total shots with 6 on goal. The Swedes would be outshot 13 to 7, but would tally more saves (8 to 6). The Swedes would also play a cleaner game as Bethany only committed 6 fouls compared to Southwestern's 12.

The Swedes are set to take the field Wednesday, September 20th at home for their conference home-opener against Bethel College. Play is set to begin at 5:00 PM in Lindsborg, Kansas.
