York, Neb. – The Bethany College Swedes Women's Soccer Team took the road to York, Nebraska to face off against the York University Panthers in a conference match-up.
Scoring came early in the contest as the Panthers would put one in the back of the net 6:50 into the match. The Swedes would not remain quiet. Mariah Ibanez would take the opening kick to resume play and make a lead pass to Andrea Garza who would shoot the ball right past the goalie and tying it up at 1-1. The Panthers would try to answer right back with another goal of their own, but Sydney Newberg would put a stop to that with quite a few saves in a short amount of time. The Panther offense would continue to apply pressure and eventually break through with another goal in the 25th minute to go up 2-1. York would add one more goal before the break to go up 3-1 at the half. The Panthers would at two more goals in the second half to win the match 5-1.
Mariah Ibanez led the team in total shots with 3 while Andrea Garza led the team in shots on goal with 2 including the lone goal of the match for the Swedes.
Sydney Newberg and Lexi Lons split time in goal evenly. Newberg drew the start while Lons played the entire second half. Both goalies totaled 7 saves on the afternoon (Lons 1, Newberg 6).

The Swedes will jump back on the road, but this time they will travel to Leavenworth, Kansas to face off against the University of Saint Mary Spires. Kickoff is set for 1pm on Saturday, October 7th.
