SWEDES START OFF STRONG BUT LOSE TO STERLING IN FIVE
Sterling, Kan. - The Bethany College Volleyball team traveled to Sterling College for their first conference match. The Swedes started off on the right foot by winning the first two sets but could not respond to the comeback of the Warriors, losing the match in five sets.
The Swedes started off by getting a jump on the Warriors in the first set, going on a 5-point streak making the score 20-11. The Warriors started making a comeback, but the Swedes finished the set 25-17. The Warriors carried the momentum into the second and went head-to-head in the second set. The Swedes were able to finish the second set strong and won in extra serves 28-26. The Swedes and the Warriors continued to go back and forth in the third set, this time the Warriors came out on top and took the set 29-27. The Swedes fell in a rut for the fourth set and dropped it 14-25. The Swedes came back with energy in the fifth set scoring 4 points from the start, however the Warriors answered back with a 6-point streak making the score 6-4. The Swedes and Warriors continued fighting for the last set and were going back and forth until Sterling went on a 3-point streak to secure the game, making the score of the fifth set 10-15.
Leading the Swedes on the court was Justice Brackney, senior middle blocker, making 11 out 17 attempted kills with only one error, resulting in an impressive .588 kill percentage. Brackney also had 3 digs, 4 block assists and scored 13 points on the night. Atlantis Jamerson and Britta Romisch both had 10 kills, 6 digs and 3 block assists. Jamerson and Romisch both also scored 11.5 on the night. Makenzie Scott, senior setter, had 18 assists and 14 digs.

The Swedes will have an opportunity to bounce back on Volleyball's 50th year anniversary this Friday, September 23rd against Kansas Wesleyan University. The match is set to start at 7:00 PM in Hahn Gymnasium after the Dr. Joyce Pigge locker room dedication.
