SWEDES OVERCOME 2-1 DEFICIT TO COMEBACK AND BEAT AVILA
LINDSBORG, KS - The Bethany College Volleyball team hosted the Avila University Eagles for homecoming weekend. All sets were high scoring sets by each team, making it an exciting match. The Swedes won the conference match up in five sets.
The first started off with both teams going back and forth, the Swedes had a few 3-point streaks helping them keep ahead of the Eagles who trailed closely behind. Despite good efforts at the end of the first by the Eagles, the Swedes secured the first set 25-21. The second set was back and forth with the teams being tied at 8 then again at 17. The Swedes then went up by two points and held the lead, making the score 23-21. The Swedes were unable to secure the set with the Eagles going on a 4-point streak, ending the match 23-25. The third set also went long with Avila having a 4-point streak and Bethany closing the gap. The Swedes kept chipping away but were unable to win the third set, losing the set 22-25. Going into the fourth set the Swedes had a rocky start with the Eagles being down 16-10. The Swedes put it into second gear by having two 3-point streaks back to back. Making the score 16-17. The Swedes only sped up from there and tied the Eagles at 17. Both teams then went back and forth and found themselves tied at 22. The Swedes then scored the next three points and secured the match point with a service ace by McKenzie Scott. The Swedes only picked up momentum from there and made the fifth set a no doubter by getting ahead early. The Swedes secured the fifth set 15-4, winning the match.
Leading the Swedes tonight was Alyssa George, scoring 18.5 points throughout the match. George had 14 kills, 4 service aces, 8 digs and one block assist. Next in line being Zola Moore who scored 17.5 points in the match. Moore had 17 kills out 52 attempts and only had 5 errors, making a .231 kill percentage. Britta Romisch scored 12.5 points while Atlantis Jamerson scored 12 point during the match. Cameron Boyd held it down on defense with 40 digs during the match.

The Bethany Volleyball team will be back on the court next Saturday, October 29th against Ottawa University. The conference match is set to start at 7:00 PM in Hahn Gymnasium.
