SWEDES GET SWEPT BY FRIENDS UNIVERSITY

Wichita, Kan. - The Bethany College Baseball team headed an hour south to Wichita Kansas to take on Friends University in a three game series. Unfortunately, Friends would get the best of the Swedes beating them in all 3 games of the series. Friends currently sits in seventh place in the conference with a record of 12-10. Bethany drops their conference record to 4-18. 

Game One

In game one of the series the Swedes would lose by the score of 3-13. The Swedes jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first three innings. In the bottom of the first inning, Noel Perez started off the game by roping a single to center field. Joseph Rivera would follow him up with a single of his own. David Espinal would execute the sacrifice bunt to move runners up for Caleb Rodriguez. Rodriguez singled to right field, scoring both Perez and Rivera. Rodriguez would get curtsey run for by Payton Walk and Walk would be the 3rd run scored for the Swedes on an RBI single by Connor Crayton. The Swedes offense would go quiet for the rest of the game as those were the only runs they were able to generate off the Friends pitching staff. 

Judd Mcall Started the game for the Swedes and went 6.0 innings on 6 hits, 3 runs (2 ER), 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Jacob Mallozzi would account for the loss lasting 1 inning on 4 hits, 4 runs (3 ER), and 1 walk. 

Game Two  

In game two of the series would finish very similarly to game one. The Swedes would lose by the score of 2-13. Offensively the Swedes would rally for 9 hits in the game but would only be able to score 1 in the top of the 2nd inning and in the top of the 7th inning. Alexander Cuevas would be credited for the first Swede run. Cuevas would reach on a fielder's choice, scoring Caleb Rodriguez. In the top of the 7th the Swedes would get their second run in the game on an RBI single by Rodrigo Santa scoring Payton Walk. 

Nicholas Flores started the game for the Swedes on the mound but would last 1.1 innings pitched on 6 hits, 7 runs (6 ER), 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Bryant Baez would be first in relief lasting 3 innings with 5 runs (4 ER), 5 walks, and 1 strikeout. Edwardo Vasquez and Carlos Guzman would make appearances in the game, combining for only giving up 1 run. 

Game Three 

In the series finale the Swedes would get shutout losing by the score of 0-7. The Swedes were only able to generate 4 hits in the game and had very few scoring opportunities. Payton Walk would account for 2 of the 4 hits that the Swedes had in the game. Noel Perez and Emanuel Alicea are the other two Swedes to record a single in the game. The Friends offense was able to get to starting pitcher Willard Frizzell for 7 runs. Frizzell would go 5.2 innings pitched with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts. Early on Frizzell would find himself getting out of innings without any damage but the Falcons would eventually be able to get to him later in the game as the runs would come late for the Falcons.
