SWEDES OFFENSE EXPLODES WINNING 22-13 AGAINST YORK UNIVERSITY

York, Neb. - The Bethany College Baseball team hit the road north to York Nebraska to take on York University in the last game of the mid-week series. This high scoring game would fall in favor for the Swedes as they were able to pick up a win in the final game by the score of 22-13. The win improves the Swedes record to 5-18 and brings York's conference record to 13-9.

All game long the offense for both teams would not go quietly, especially with the long ball. In the top of the first inning the Swedes would get 4 runs on two home runs. The first 4 batters of the game for the Swedes reached base starting with a single by Noel Perez followed by a Joseph Rivera two-run home run. The 3rd batter in the inning, Luis Ramos, would rope a single to left followed by another two-run home run this time from David Espinal to give the Swedes an early 4-0 lead heading into the second inning. York would scratch one off a lead off home run and would be trailing 4-1 heading to the top of the 3rd inning.

In the top of the 3rd inning the Swedes offense continued to stay hot as they were able to score 3 runs in the half inning. Connor Crayton led off the inning with a walk, and Willard Frizzell would join the fun with a two-run home run of his own to extend the Swedes lead to 6-1. The Swedes catcher, Emanuel Alicea, would double down the left field line and would be courtesy run for by Payton Walk. York's catcher would attempt to back-pick Walk at second base but would end up throwing the ball into center field allowing Walk to advance to third base but on the same play the center fielder for York would misjudge the ball allowing Walk to come around to score from second to extend the lead 7-1 and cap off the 3 run inning for the Swedes.

The 4th inning saw a ton of action as a combined 10 runs were scored in the inning. The Swedes would account for two of the runs in their half inning from a double by Willard Frizzell scoring Joseph Rivera and Luis Ramos, who got on base from a single and a walk, and would extend the lead to 9-1. York would explode in the inning scoring eight runs in the bottom half of the inning off of a couple of key hits and a grand slam in the inning. That big inning would tie the game up at 9-9 but certainly both teams were not done scoring.

The Swedes would respond quickly as they would put up 6 runs in the top of the 5th inning to gain the lead back 15-9. A walk, single, and hit-by-pitch would load the bases for Joseph Rivera who would rope a single to center field, scoring Emanuel Alicea and Caleb Copeland. Luis Ramos would be the next batter who would draw a walk and load the bases backup for David Espinal. Esinal would get a pitch to drive and he would not miss it, sending the ball into the left field stands for a grand slam and his 2nd home run on the day.

The offense would not stop there for the Swedes as they would score 1 run in the 6th inning off a sacrifice fly. The 7th inning the Swedes would score 3 runs off a two RBI single by Noel Perez followed by a Joseph Rivera RBI single. In the 9th inning the Swedes would add 3 runs to their lead off a two-run home run to left field by Emanuel Alicea, and a pinch hit solo home run by Isaiah Romero to give the Swedes a 22-13 victory.

In the ball game the Swedes had 6 home runs and 3 doubles. David Espinal would lead the offense with 6 RBI, followed by Joseph Rivera who would have 5 RBI, and Willard Frizzell with 4 RBI.

Starting on the mound for the Swedes was the tall lefty Willian Figueroa-Soto who would last 3.1 innings with 7 hits, 6 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. 4 other Swedes pitchers were used in the game, but Jacob Mallozzi would be credited for the win going 2 innings on 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
