SWEDES UNABLE TO KEEP LEAD AGAINST THRESHERS 

North Newton, Kan. - The Bethany Men's Basketball team traveled to Bethel College for a conference matchup. The Swedes were ahead at the end of the first half but were unable to hold off the Threshers through the second half. 

Bethany started off on the right foot and ahead of the Threshers to start off the game. The Swedes jumped ahead in the first five minutes of the game with a three pointer made by senior Jah-kez Moore followed by a layup and a jump shot, making the score 9-4. The Swedes continued to tack on with a couple jump shots made by senior Solomon Clayton making the score 15-10. The gears shifted in the next five minutes when Bethel made a few three point shots and closed the gap to one point, 17-16. Bethel continued to make a few free throws, taking the lead and making the score 17-20 with 11:08 left on the clock. The Bethany men then woke up and went on a roll for fifteen points before the Threshers would score again. The score being 32-20 with 5:37 left on the clock. The Threshers attempted to regain the momentum but were unable to as the Swedes found a groove. They finished the first half up by eleven, 45-34. 

For the first ten minutes the Swedes stayed ahead of the Threshers by 10-12 points. Then Bethany's offense slowed down for a minute and half allowing Bethel to gain ground on the Swedes. With 6:35 left on the clock the Threshers tied the game up with a free throw. Bethel then took hold of the momentum as the Swedes were unable to comeback. The game ended with Bethany dropping the game 77-83. 

Justin Brookens scored 18 points and had 3 assists. Solomon Clayton had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks. Jah-kez Moore had 17 points making all 3 attempted three point shots, along with 6 rebounds and a block. The Swedes had a 45.8 shooting percentage and 44 total rebounds.

The Bethany Men's Basketball team will have a chance for redemption this Saturday, January 14 against Friends University. Tip off is set for 7:00PM in Hahn Gymnasium.
